Well wow! I am writing this from outside a shepherd’s hut in the middle of the pasture land at the top of Velika Planina mountain. I have fresh curd cheese to eat with salami and bread. I can see beautiful mountain tops, the sun is shining and the wind is blowing gently.

Shall I just stay here all day?
Well I am not being collected until 5.30pm so that is highly likely.
Velika Planina is a traditional area for herdsmen and shepherds huts. They move here in June and stay until September looking after cattle. There may be other animals but I’ve only seen cattle.

It is pretty idyllic as you’ll imagine and I’m not too bothered that I have such a long day here, I think it will make me relax and enjoy every step of the way.
A long walk around the place leaves me relaxed and full. I stopped in the herdsmen’s village and had cold cuts/cheese. The salami was to die for. Everyone I spoke to agreed. The curd cheese was freshly made, and seemed somewhere between halloumi and mozzarella.

I later had some bean and sauerkraut stew. Yummy stuff.

It’s been a hot day but my trusty hat, sunglasses and sunscreen have served me well!
Chris is coming tomorrow – can’t wait to show him some cool stuff!
