Funicular Fun in Innsbruck

Following on from my Stubai adventure earlier in the week (Innsbruck Day One), I started using the 3-day Innsbruck Card I had already bought. They are available online or at major tourist places such as the Tourist Information.

The Innsbruck Card has many benefits, but the cable cars to/from local mountains Nordkette (normally EU 44) and Patscherkofel (EU27) are both included.

The 3 day card was EU73 so just those cable car rides makes it worth it already. Don’t be like me though and fail to ask if an attraction is included: I went to the Grassmayr Bell Foundry and paid to go in because I thought it was not included! Whilst writing this blog post I realised that it is included – doh!

I enjoyed a trip to the top of Nordkette. There are many hikes up there of varying levels. I did two easy ones – The Path of Perspectives and then came back down to the AlpenZoo level and had a look around there. It’s a zoo dedicated to alpine animals.

The walking on the mountain is pretty stony at the top, not the most pleasant – but I guess it’s the same for most mountains. That’s how you get the great views though!

As you can see, I’ll trust anybody with my phone!

Yesterday late afternoon, I went up the Patscherkofel as they open till late on a Thursday in Summer (till 10 or 11pm I believe). I had to walk a couple of kilometers as the bus went an unexpected way. So I took the opportunity for some super pictures and enjoyed the walk. It was cloudy on and off – interesting to watch the weather go by.

More gorgeous views, with a definite hint of “The Hills Are Alive” in the photo above the caption “Detour”. (Don’t think I’ve forgotten that Salzburg is on your itinerary. 😉)

The cable car ride looks like fun, though I’m guessing the film is at a considerably higher speed than the actual experience was. I hope so, anyway, for the sake of your stomach contents!
