In my day to day life, I am often in city centres and traveling alone. It doesn’t bother me; I am safety conscious and keep my belongings close to me when walking around. I’ve always done this.
However, I have read that a number of people in the interailing groups have recently been pickpocketed on their trips. I know there is a fair amount of tourist related pickpocketing happening in train stations especially where people have luggage, directions and tickets to worry about. It made me think about the effect it would have on me if I lost my phone for example.
Because of this, I am going to be more vigilant and a little better security prepared. I am also going to better prepare copies of important numbers and documents.
Basically I will:
- consider using an ‘anti-theft’ bag (see below)
- separate my cards/cash into more than one place so that if one set is stolen I can use the other set
- look at best options for hanging my phone around my neck sometimes
- take records of important numbers, bank details, documents etc and keep a copy on phone, a copy online and a hard copy.
- take a padlock/bike lock for my bag (to secure to luggage racks)
- take a small bum bag for back up cards/cash

Here is one of the bags that’s I am looking at – not as expensive as the ‘pacsafe’ brand but still good reviews.
If you have any recommendations in this area so let me know!
